Alternative Learning: Programs at McLain and Long View High Schools

Feb 20, 2024

From the McLain website:

We welcome and serve the non-traditional student:  the creative student, the misunderstood student, the pregnant student, the student with kids, the homeless student, the student with three jobs, and so many more.  Each of our students has a story.  Nobody here is a faceless student number in the middle of yet another classroom.

At McLain we provide an alternative path to a life of learning, opportunity, and choice

Bootstraps and the annual Rocky Mtn Literary Festival

Mar 12, 2024

In 1945, a group of civic-minded citizens formed Evergreen Scholarship Association to recognize an outstanding graduating senior from Evergreen High School, then the only high school in the Evergreen-Conifer area. Donations from citizens, the high school PTA, and the Evergreen Women’s Club raised $11,000 in seed money. In the spring of 1946, the association awarded two $150.00 two-year scholarships. The number and amount of scholarships increased as contributions grew, and the organization continued to award scholarships in May of each successive year.

Major funding for Bootstraps scholarships comes from the annual Rocky Mountain Literary Festival, now in its 10th year!

The Honor Bell Foundation

May 21, 2024 11:30 AM

For Coloradans who have sacrificed selflessly by serving our Nation, we can offer a final salute — a tribute that resounds with tradition, dignity, solemnity and respect. This is the mission of The Honor Bell Foundation, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization working to properly recognize departed veterans during burial services.

We do so with the Honor Bell, a 1000-pound bronze instrument specially forged from the legacy of other heroic service men and women, which is tolled at public ceremonies and funeral rites to signal our respect and sound our loss.

Strengthening the Local Food System and Building Healthier Communities

Jun 11, 2024 5:30 PM

“Food is life. It is necessity and pleasure, family and community, culture, and power. When plentiful and freely shared, food creates healthy communities and strong societies. When scarce or unfairly distributed, it damages and, in time, kills spirit, body, family, community.”
