Lakewood Foothills Rotary Club Board Minutes February 21, 2006
Members in attendance: Jack O’Dell, Andy Haried, Russ Gleason, Roger Pool, Ed Pearl, Donna Connolly
Minutes from last meeting January minutes approved. Motion by Russ, 2nd by Donna
Treasurer’s report Motion to approve Russ, 2nd Roger
Secretary’s report Semiannual report was submitted showing 33 active members and 7 honorary. Our attendance rate is 62.88%. Ron Kientz has requested a 120 day leave of absence beginning 02/01/06.
Bronco committee meeting is Monday, February 27 at 7:00pm in the Red Fox Room at Red Rocks Community College.
No one will be going to PETS training as Jack is staying on as president. Can the allocated funds be used for members to attend District Conference? Decision tabled.
Concern was expressed for Mickie Cameron and Dale Milne. Flowers will be sent to both. Motion to relieve Mickie of meal costs until she can attend meetings regularly was made by Roger. 2nd by Russ. Will make sure we are sending had copy of Cogwheel to Dale.
Ad in Sentinel – Jack is working on. Warren Tech graphic design students are not able to do it.
Website – Peter Adgie will be traveling for a few months. Someone is needed to take over.
Spring break – Jack will check to see if W.T. can till accommodate us for our meeting/meal.
Comments form members indicate that prayer should be ‘generic’ not referring to any specific religion or denomination.
Vocational Service – It is recommended that we have a program on business ethics.
Community – Flower Power did not have a project coordinator so there was some confusion at the show. Owen Dugan delivered all of the flowers gathered to area nursing homes. Our next project will be refurbishing the diner at Lakewood Heritage Center. Roger attended meeting of Shots for Tots. This may not be a viable project for us as the committee is somewhat disorganized.
International Service – Bill Hunter not here. Juarez club would like us to visit in April or May. Bill is organizing with South Jeffco club. We will probably take one or two houses.
Exchange student – no news. The is interest from a potential outbound student.
President’s report – Jack says his board is all set for 2006/2007 year.
RI Foundation - $1500 is available to assist club members to become Paul Harris Fellows or to nominate someone from outside the club. We should have two new Paul Harris Fellows by the end of this year.
Fund raiser – Entertainment program was proposed by Ron. Members would sell tickets,. No details yet. |

Club Programs
February 8th is the date for an evening event to hear from a woman who climbed Mt. Everest. This will not be a dinner meeting. Members, spouses and children are invited.
Club historian / photographer Jack will bring a disposable camera to the January 14th Bronco game.
Francis is the club historian and Peter Adgie is the club photographer.
Public relations Jack is working on the Sentinel ad. Warren Tech may create layout for free advertising.
Bill Hunter has not talked to Neeves recently.
Lakewood Foothills Rotary Club was features in two newspaper articles. Jack is working on an article about Francis and the Uganda project.

Vocational Taghoy project Board meeting is tonight. $22,000 grant money will probably be spent on monitoring equipment.
Community Shots for Tots: Roger attended the Shots for Tots meeting and was not available for an update.
Next service project is Flower Power and is in need of a project coordinator.
International
Juarez houses One house is complete at Warren Tech and have four complete by April. Bill will get with the foundation to see about the $1,950.00 commitment. Bill will also get with Stephen on funding from the South Jeffco Club.

Presidents Report
Club is doing well. Last year the club under spent the budget and intends to spend that money this year. Next six months emphasis will be on fundraising and membership.
Meeting to be set up with all clubs involved with the Bronco fundraiser on February 20th. Time and place to be determined latter. We need to decide if we will be involved next year. Member’s participation in this project is low and we may want to not be involved or look into a booth that takes less people. Other
Approved board meeting minutes will be emailed to members and posted on the web site.
April 28, 29 and 30th. District conference will be held in Vail. The club has $400 available to offset members cost to attend.
Rotary Quad Dinner is January 20 at the old Marriot (Hampden and I-25). Cost is $45 per person, the following day of training sessions at $15 per person.
Bill reported on his investigation of Redneck Games. Bill is meeting with the city of Lakewood to see if this is a fit with Lakewood on Parade. |

Russ has finalized the playhouse raffle. The club donated $1,100 to Habitat for Humanity, $564 for the club and paid Russ for the supplies.

Larry will ask Ted Cluett the names of the potential members Ted brought to our meeting.

Public relations Sentinel advertising: Jack and Roger meet with Warren Tech on the Sentinel advertising layout. Warren Tech has contacted the Sentinel to finalize graphics.
Bill Hunter has talked to Neeves about polo shirts but needed to contact them again for a clarification of the quote.

Vocational Taghoy project Team is set for the next trip to the Philippines. The team is leaving the end of February and will be in the Philippines for two weeks.
